"Beautiful Thing" is a 1996 LGBTQ+ film set in London's public housing. This heartwarming film has an impressive soundtrack and uses background music, especially Mama Cass's "Make Your Own Kind of Music" and "Dream a Little Dream of Me," effectively in romantic scenes. There is also a fictional case for the choice of the song "Sixteen, Going on to Seventeen" by Rodgers and Hammerstein using this particular song to express the insecurity of two boys having sex for the first time. The movie is well conceived and well-acted, offering creative and excellent lines. "Beautiful Thing" offers a great plot for the 1996 era, with an adequate handling of homosexuality, bigotry, and awkward teenage character traits. The moving story of the two teens being in love within an unlikely setting and other characters' reactions draws you in, and the end is both satisfying and uplifting.
