A Stranger Among Us is a straightforward, if not entirely believable, crime drama that follows a detective, played by Melanie Griffith, as she goes undercover in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community to investigate a murder. While the film has a number of issues, including a lack of originality and an improbable plot, it is saved by a decent performance from James Gandolfini as a mobster. Despite its flaws, the film is an entertaining watch and a good example of the police procedural genre, albeit not one of the best.
