Highlanders Editorial Review

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare is a historical romance novel set in the Scottish Highlands with a premise that readers might find quirky. The story follows US-born Maddie, who creates an imaginary Scottish captain named Logan MacKenzie to avoid society expectations, unaware that he is a real person. When Maddie’s imaginary captain becomes so popular and requested for duty, she kills him off, but Logan shows up at her door alive and well, seeking vengeance for his lost opportunity. Despite the rocky start, Maddie and Logan embark on an adventure to keep her lies from unraveling, forging an unexpected connection, and finding themselves falling in love in the process. The reviewer enjoyed the book and highly recommended it, feeling it was a perfect mix of story and love. They praised the characters’ development and the author’s talent for writing wittily and comically, which was a breath of fresh air for historical romance. The reviewer appreciated that the passion between the protagonists never overshadowed the story’s other aspects, and the love story was beautiful, building, and breathtaking. The secondary characters were funny and played significant roles, showcasing the protagonists' tender sides. The reviewer also enjoyed the tension and culmination of the love story, the story, and the characters' evolution. They found the premise wonderful and ironic, as Maddie's fantasy became reality and part of the other's reality too. Moreover, they commended the author's writing, which made the character's Gaelic endearments exceptionally swoon-worthy. The reviewer read the e-book and listened to the audiobook, both of which they Considered excellent, with a special mention to Carmen Rose's performance. The reviewer loved the author’s style and storytelling, which always made them feel good and repelled stress, even on rereads.
