Comedy 2225172 Editorial Review
**Editorial Review** "Charade," presented by The Criterion Collection, shines as a classic cinematic masterpiece combining comedy, mystery, and romance. Often dubbed as "the best Alfred Hitchcock movie Alfred Hitchcock never made," the film pairs legendary actors Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, creating an unforgettable duo. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Paris, their chemistry and engaging performances are a highlight, bringing humor and intrigue to every scene. This film incorporates themes prevalent in the early-to-mid 1960s, such as the complexities of romantic relationships and the underlying secrecy that can plague them. Despite these heavier undertones, "Charade" maintains a light-hearted tone, using humor and charm to tell the story of Hepburn's character as she navigates the mysterious circumstances surrounding her late husband. The dialogue flows seamlessly, underscoring the witty banter between Grant and Hepburn, both of whom demonstrate just why they are celebrated iCons of the film industry. With a stellar supporting cast, which includes James Coburn, George Kennedy, and Walter Matthau, the movie is a delightful journey from start to finish, peppered with plot twists that keep audiences engaged. The cinematography captures the lush French landscapes beautifully, although some reviews mention that the Criterion Blu-Ray edition shows a degree of graininess, possibly due to the film's age. Despite this minor drawback, the film is widely regarded as a fantastic blend of elements that make vintage cinema enchanting. The Oscar-winning score by Henry Mancini adds an additional layer of excellence to the viewing experience. Overall, "Charade" is a brilliant escapism filled with amusement, intrigue, and charm that remains a timeless classic. **
