Military & Wars Editorial Review
Ground Zero, written by Alan Gratz, is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that explores the events of 9/11 through the eyes of two young protagonists. The story effectively alternates between the perspectives of Brandon, who experiences the tragedy firsthand, and Reshmina, a young girl living in Afghanistan. The book captivates readers with its engaging plot and plenty of action. The alternating chapters between the two stories provide a fresh and dynamic narrative that keeps readers hooked. Gratz's skillful storytelling allows for a seamless merging of the two storylines, creating a satisfying and impactful conclusion. Many readers, particularly young students, found the book to be an eye-opening experience. It sparked curiosity and prompted them to ask questions and conduct independent research about the events of 9/11. The emotional depth of the characters resonated with readers, and they appreciated the drama and the bittersweet moments that the story offered. However, not all readers were equally enamored with the book. Some found it boring and slow-paced, with plot twists that felt forced and excessive. This polarization of opinions suggests that the book may not appeal to every reader's taste and preferences. Overall, Ground Zero is a thought-provoking novel that provides a unique perspective on the events of 9/11. With its engaging plot, alternating narratives, and emotional depth, it has the potential to captivate readers and create a deeper understanding of this significant historical event.
