DVD Editorial Review

Jarhead is a war movie that follows the story of a young recruit named Swofford who joins the US Marines during the Gulf War in the early '90s. The movie has a mix of humor, action, and drama, and it's based on a true story. One of the highlights of the movie is the acting, with Jake Gyllenhaal delivering an excellent performance as Swofford. The supporting cast is great too, with actors like Jamie Foxx and Peter Sarsgaard giving memorable performances. The movie also has some great scenes that manage to capture the harsh realities of war, but it never glorifies it. Instead, it shows the mental toll that war can take on soldiers, and it does it in a compelling and realistic way. While the movie isn't perfect, it's definitely worth watching if you're a fan of war movies or just looking for a well-made drama with great acting.

特色和優勢

  • Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this critically acclaimed, brilliantly unconventional war story from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes.
  • Follows the trajectory of Swofford from wayward Marine recruit to skilled Marine sniper, and on into the desert in preparation for the attack on Iraq.
  • The movie remains very loyal to the language and vision of the book, with stark and apocalyptic visuals that add a lot and strike the right tone.
  • Bonus content includes in-depth features and commentary by the director and editor.
  • Based on Anthony Swofford’s excellent memoir about his experiences as a Marine Sniper in Gulf War I.
  • The film needs something more than a literal translation to bring out its full potential.
