DVD Editorial Review

** The Train [DVD]** "The Train," featuring Burt Lancaster, is hailed as a thrilling piece of cinema that captures the chaos and horror of World War II while delivering a riveting action-packed narrative. Critics celebrate the film not only for Lancaster's powerful performance but also for its practical effects, particularly the dramatic wreckage of steam engines that lends authenticity to the visual storytelling. Unlike many modern films that rely heavily on CGI, "The Train" showcases real stunts and effects, which serve as a testament to the craftsmanship of its time. The film's plot revolves around the theft of priceless artworks by Nazis as they attempt to flee the impending arrival of Allied forces. This high-stakes scenario unfolds through a combination of action and deeper themes; it encapsulates the devastating effects of war on society while exposing the madness behind such atrocities. Reviews emphasize the richness of the subplots and character interactions, particularly the dynamics between Lancaster's character and a local innkeeper, which add layers of nuance to the storyline. Although the pacing is brisk, critics appreciate that it doesn’t linger overly long, with many noting the film's satisfying runtime that keeps viewers engaged without unnecessary fillers. While a few minor plot inConsistencies were pointed out, they did not detract from the overall experience. Notably, the cinematography and lighting, especially in evening sequences, were praised for their beauty, reinforcing the film's status as a work of art. Overall, "The Train" continues to resonate with audiences, particularly those with an interest in the historical context of World War II. It's seen not just as entertainment, but as an important piece of cinematic history that offers insights into a past filled with complex moral dilemmas during a tumultuous time. **
