The Rolls Hum Eliminator HE18 is a transformer-based device that is designed to eliminate hum generated by the output device, bad grounding or electrical hum. Users suggest that while it may eliminate hum going into the cable, if any noise is generated by the RCA cable, the device will not work. It works with several types of cables, including RCA and 1/4-inch. Users with parasound HCA 1000 and Hertz car amps noted no hum or noise, not even when gain was turned up and no input signal. The product's effectiveness, however, varies, and in some cases, it did not eliminate hum at all. One user warned that frequency ranges might be deadened and that it is not suitable for recording or mastering, while another noted that using XLR, COAX, or CAT cables is the only noise-free way to transmit sound through more than approximately 6 feet of cable.
